Why Dead Stream?
Over 60 years ago, the Harriman family from Readfield, Maine owned farmland that they decided to start raising Black Angus Beef Cattle on. Down in back of their farm flowed a beautiful stream that runs into Maranacook Lake called Dead Stream. The Harriman family decided to aptly name their farm Dead Stream Farm.
Many years after the cattle were gone, Dave, son of Mr. Harriman, started producing maple syrup. Dave started on a wood stove that he quickly outgrew and has since built his own sugar house, complete with an evaporator, filter press and a canner. Like his father, Dave needed a name for his maple business. Being the historian that he is, Dave decided on Dead Stream Maple Farm to continue the use of the family’s farm name, and thus became the name you know today, although there is one more component to it now.
